The government of the Republic of China on Taiwan draws one set of conclusions from the above historical data:

1. The sovereignty of Formosa and the Pescadores was transferred to the Republic of China on 1945.10.25.

2. The correct name of the central government, from 1912 to the present,  is "Republic of China".  This nomenclature takes into account the 1978.08.23 Vienna Convention on Succession of States in respect of Treaties.

3.  The Republic of China on Taiwan is an independent and sovereign nation.

4.  The Republic of China on Taiwan is fully qualified to join the United Nations.

5.  The political entities on either side of the Taiwan Strait are both countries in their own right.

The government of the People's Republic of China draws a differing set of conclusions from the above historical data:

1. The sovereignty of Formosa and the Pescadores was transferred to the Republic of China on 1945.10.25.

2. The correct name of the central government, from 1949 to the present,  is "People's Republic of China".  This nomenclature takes into account the 1978.08.23 Vienna Convention on Succession of States in respect of Treaties.

3. The People's Republic of China is an independent and sovereign nation, and is the sole legally recognized government of China.

4.  The People's Republic of China is a member of the United Nations.

5.  The People's Republic of China is the successor government to the Republic of China, hence from a legal standpoint Formosa and the Pescadores clearly belong to the People's Republic of China.

The international community draws a clearer set of conclusions from the above historical data:

1. The sovereignty of Formosa and the Pescadores was never transferred to the Republic of China

2. Under the "One China Policy" the People's Republic of China is the solely recognized legal government of China

3.  Taiwan is not an independent and sovereign nation.

4. According to the determination of the United Nations and the international community, and under the provisions of the "Taiwan Relations Act", the government of Taiwan can only be termed the "Taiwan governing authorities," and cannot properly be called the "Republic of China"

5. Taiwan is not qualified to join the United Nations
